Good vs. Bad Bubbles

Good vs. Bad Bubbles

Did you know that the bubbles from your cleansers and shampoos may actually be harmful?

Foaming Agents are the ingredients that help produce the playful bubbles in shampoos and cleansers. However, not all foaming agents are as harmless as they may seem. Some foaming agents are linked to health concerns and should be avoided. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, a common ingredient found in shampoos, laundry detergents, and facial cleansers, has been reported to be a skin irritant. It has also been reported that Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (or SLS) is often contaminated during the manufacturing process by 1,4 dioxane, which is possibly carcinogenic and has been linked to potentially being detrimental to the kidney, liver and central nervous system.

To avoid these potentially harmful agents, there are green alternatives derived from coconuts that are just as effective at cleaning. These ingredients include sodium cocoamphoacetate, which may sound like a long and complicated name but don’t run away! Sodium Cocoamphoacetate is actually a beautiful foaming agent that is mild and non-irritating unlike Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, and has been deemed to have low toxicity, and therefore not a health concern. Our popular Activated Charcoal Cleanser utilizes this gentle cleansing agent to thoroughly clean the skin without stripping the delicate skin of its natural oils.

Here at Shamanuti, we work hard to find the best alternatives to produce safe and effective products so you can enjoy your bubbles without worry!
